The Gallery: Picture Postcard
As soon as I heard that this week’s theme would be “Picture Postcard”, I knew I had to take a photo of our ancient village church. It was built in the fourteenth century and is one of very few churches in the country (and the only one in Suffolk) that has an intact timber-framed chancel.
What makes it particularly lovely is its quaintness, with many people saying it looks like a hybrid medieval house/chapel. It was actually an outreach church in its heyday, commonly known as a chapel of ease, serving parishioners who could not attend its larger sibling in the next village.
I took several photos and had immense trouble deciding which one to use. Then I remembered I didn’t have to pick just one! So I have narrowed it down to my favourite two and here they are.
The first photo is the more typical postcard shot of a quintessential medieval English church. It may not be big, but it is beautiful. I wanted to photograph the much grander interior as well, but sadly it wasn’t open during my visit this afternoon.
I chose the second one because I loved how Sprogdaddy and the boy are holding hands in it. The comparative size of the building adds a dramatic sense of scale. I may not be religious, but I never fail to be awed by such incredible architecture.
As usual, pop on over to Sticky Fingers to see the other entries or even submit your own. This is The Gallery’s 100th week and in celebration there is a very apt prize on offer!

The Gallery: Morning
This week sees my first entry into Sticky Fingers’ awesome Gallery meme. The theme is Morning which is a bit of a toughie as I generally steer clear of that time of day and when you do see me about, I’m not a pretty sight.
Luckily, Sprogdaddy and son decided to surprise me with this delicious-looking breakfast. I’m very pleased that the boy has taken good advantage of his wooden kitchen gear we bought for Christmas, now if only he would make me real tea and toast! Naturally it seemed the perfect subject to take a photograph of, so here it is complete with warm morning sunshine to make it look even lovelier.
Don’t forget to head on over to this week’s Gallery linky and check out other blogger’s entries….

Flashback Friday: Weaning
Can’t believe another year has come and gone already! 2011 definitely moved fast as Sprogdaddy and I got into the swing of parenting. This time last year, Sprogzilla was just starting solids and got to try some tasty roast vegetable sticks.
I’ve already posted Christmas dinner comparison shots in an earlier post, so here’s a selection of photos showing Sprogzilla enjoying a variety of foods between 5-8 months of age. Banana is still his favourite to this day and he regularly enjoys breastmilk as well. Baby-led weaning worked very well for all of us!
- Herb Puffs
- Toast
- Sweetcorn Rings
- Chocolate Biscotti
- Spaghetti Bolognese
- Dairylea on toast
- Evian
- Avocado
- Banana
Also happening this time last year:
Sprogzilla was starting to roll from front to back regularly and was even attempting to push off and crawl with his knees. Sleep was still in turmoil, with night sessions never longer than three and a half hours at a time. We co-slept a lot then. He was also diagnosed with infantile eczema, though we’ve been successfully managing it with a very natural cream.
