Review: Red Castle COCOONaBABY Nest

Sprogmama Reviews 2 Comments

RRP £110
Retailer: BabyREFLUX and other online retailers

+ Comfy, secure, good for colic, reflux, poor sleepers
- Spare sheets over-priced

From barely a week old, Sprogzilla had colic and suspected silent reflux (the latter was eventually ruled out). He had to be rocked vigorously to sleep and would always wake up crying. As worried first-time parents, we felt miserable and helpless that we couldn’t make our son more comfortable.

Sleep Log: August 2011

Sprogmama sleep Sleep Logs 0 Comment

We’re more than halfway through September and I’ve only just realised I didn’t post a sleep log for August! Guess I better remedy that then….

August was a real turning-point in Sprogzilla’s sleep patterns. If you’ve seen July’s log, you’ll know that he started sleeping through right at the end after we tried a new approach to his night-time wakings. This has resulted in continued success and he now sleeps on average about 10hrs before waking up to nurse, followed by anything between 30mins to 2hrs further sleep.

We have had the odd blip where he wakes and requires a nurse, but usually he will self-settle, especially if the white noise we are using is turned up. He also has his glowing cuddly seahorse which seems to provide a little bit of comfort when he needs it.

Naps are considerably more stable, though the second one can be a bit of a struggle. I think we are close to dropping it, but he is still very tired only a couple of hours after getting up for the day. I don’t want to push him too far and end up with an over-tired toddler who won’t sleep again.

One major change I’m a little upset about is his unwillingness to co-sleep any more. The last time he joined me in bed was a good six weeks ago. Every time I try, he just wants to jump about on the bed and play. However, when I pop him back in the nursery he is asleep within minutes.

Obviously we are a good way through September, but I don’t want to reveal how his sleep has been this month or I’ll have nothing to say in the next log entry. Though if his sleep continues to stay on track, I don’t think there’ll be any need to post these reports much longer….

Zach Snaps: Happy Chappy

Sprogmama Photos 0 Comment

A couple of days ago, I came across this post on Peaceful Parenting. I was sad to read that Darcia rarely saw any truly happy babies and toddlers in her work, so I decided to showcase a few of my favourite images of Sprogzilla at his happiest.

Some of these have been posted here before, but they all deserve to be seen again. And when I’m having a bad day with the boy I can just look at this post and realise what a fantastic little chappy he really is. Even when he refuses to nap and won’t let me leave the room without wailing for England…..

I hope this little collection puts a smile on your face too. :)

Where Has My Writing Mojo Gone?

Sprogmama Mummy, Random 0 Comment

Last night, I was lying in bed reading posts from a old blog I used to run and I realised, with sadness, that I’m just not as witty as I used to be. I can only assume it’s the combination of tiredness and post-pregnancy brain that’s responsible for this, but I really have to work hard to word my posts in a style that doesn’t seem tedious to read.

I remember reading about how the brain completely re-wires itself during pregnancy and the first year after giving birth. Well it’s been nearly fifteen months now since Sprogzilla came into the world, so supposedly this cleanup operation is over. But it seems that my quirky writing style got lost along the way. What a bitch.

What’s really annoying is that I’ll often come up with something I want to say in a blog post – usually when I’m as far away from a computer as possible – but by the time I get to writing it down, it’s long gone. It even happens when I’m in the process of writing and have a great idea for the next paragraph! I seem to have lost all ability to retain my thoughts for more than three seconds. Which, incidentally, is the alleged memory capacity of a goldfish.

Years ago I was on a rather nasty antidepressant called Seroxat (more famously known as Paxil to my American cousins) and I found I was unable to concentrate for long periods of time. Despite being off the drug for more than six years now, I still find it hard to focus on things and my once stellar ability to multi-task is but a distant memory.

So can I put it all down to screwed up brain chemistry? Or am I really just getting old? So much for going to university one day, I won’t have the mental capacity to learn anything new! Not that I’ll ever be able to afford it anyway, thank you coalition government……

Review: Stokke Xplory Evo V3

Sprogmama pushchairs, stokke, xplory Reviews 23 Comments

RRP £680
Available from Back in Action

+ Gorgeous design, excellent build quality
- Very expensive

Well, I’ve had this pushchair for a few months now and finally feel ready to give it the detailed review it deserves. And boy, I think this is the longest post I’ve ever written! I apologise for the lack of detailed photos, when I started writing this I thought I had taken more. If you’re reading this though, you probably already know the basics of the Xplory and have seen photos and videos elsewhere.

Review: Little Green Sheep Organic Mattresses

Sprogmama sleep Reviews 0 Comment

From: £115
Retailer: http://www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk

+ Fabulous quality mattresses, great customer service
- Expensive compared to non-organic mattresses

LGS is one of my favourite companies to buy from and I’ve ordered tonnes of stuff from them over the last year, much of which I’ll be reviewing here at some point.

They sell an eclectic range of organic goods including clothes, bedding and gifts, but their flagship products are a range of luxury organic wool, cotton, latex and coconut fibre mattresses.
