Cannibal Sprogzilla
He didn’t wolf it down quite as fast as expected, which hopefully means he doesn’t care that much for the sweet stuff, though it did take preference over the Organix box. He didn’t finish it until this morning, you can see the final remains in today’s photo.
What’s slightly disturbing is that he always bites the head off first and if he’s not bored by that point, the limbs come next. I caught Sprogdaddy trying to lure him into finishing one earlier. The choice was “lobotomised gingerbread man” or “decapitated gingerbread man”, the former having a large chunk of head missing. He didn’t care for either.
I don’t know whether that means he’s some kind of zombie toddler (mmmm… juicy brains!) or a reincarnated cat. Probably the latter as he tends to leave the guts lying all over the floor, which you can also see in the photo. Actually, he has quite a lot in common with cats, but I’ll come to that another day….
Perhaps I should offer some gummy bears or jelly babies and see how he eats those. Thinking about it, he’s always liked to rip the heads off broccoli stems and discard the rest.
Probably not a good idea to let him watch Silence of the Lambs. Ever.

The Gallery: Morning
This week sees my first entry into Sticky Fingers’ awesome Gallery meme. The theme is Morning which is a bit of a toughie as I generally steer clear of that time of day and when you do see me about, I’m not a pretty sight.
Luckily, Sprogdaddy and son decided to surprise me with this delicious-looking breakfast. I’m very pleased that the boy has taken good advantage of his wooden kitchen gear we bought for Christmas, now if only he would make me real tea and toast! Naturally it seemed the perfect subject to take a photograph of, so here it is complete with warm morning sunshine to make it look even lovelier.
Don’t forget to head on over to this week’s Gallery linky and check out other blogger’s entries….

Flashback Friday: Weaning
Can’t believe another year has come and gone already! 2011 definitely moved fast as Sprogdaddy and I got into the swing of parenting. This time last year, Sprogzilla was just starting solids and got to try some tasty roast vegetable sticks.
I’ve already posted Christmas dinner comparison shots in an earlier post, so here’s a selection of photos showing Sprogzilla enjoying a variety of foods between 5-8 months of age. Banana is still his favourite to this day and he regularly enjoys breastmilk as well. Baby-led weaning worked very well for all of us!
- Herb Puffs
- Toast
- Sweetcorn Rings
- Chocolate Biscotti
- Spaghetti Bolognese
- Dairylea on toast
- Evian
- Avocado
- Banana
Also happening this time last year:
Sprogzilla was starting to roll from front to back regularly and was even attempting to push off and crawl with his knees. Sleep was still in turmoil, with night sessions never longer than three and a half hours at a time. We co-slept a lot then. He was also diagnosed with infantile eczema, though we’ve been successfully managing it with a very natural cream.

Eat Something Woman!
My eating habits are appalling. It’s not that I eat too much, rather I eat too little. And its not the healthiest stuff. I’m terribly, terribly lazy at fixing myself something to eat and will usually end up grabbing a packet of crisps or a chocolate bar out of the cupboard. Sprogzilla eats far better than I do – I put considerably more effort into his meals than mine. If I didn’t have to make him food, I’d be even lazier!
If I’m feeling a bit adventurous, the toaster comes out to play. I recently tried some rather yummy onion bagels, that’s got to be better than a Snickers for breakfast, surely. The mini pittas I bought for Sprogzilla are rather tasty too, especially when stuffed with Dairylea…… Oh, and I am rather partial to Crunchy Nut Nutty Cornflakes…. Perhaps all is not lost after all.
I’ve never been one for cooking. I grew up an only child, spoiled by a father who did everything for me. I didn’t need to cook. Now I’m trying to reverse that bad habit, especially having a child of my own on board, but it’s not easy for this old dog to learn new tricks. Especially when I’ve got the mental capacity and energy levels of an obese toad thanks to the sleep deprivation.
It doesn’t help that I’m breastfeeding. Am I still supposed to be eating an extra 500 calories a day? Sprogzilla doesn’t seem to be easing up on the nursing sessions, so I guess I should be keeping those reserves up. Oops….
Today, Sprogdaddy and I made pecan brownies together. Not exactly the healthiest thing we could cook up, but at least I know what’s in it. Which means I’m happy giving Sprogzilla the odd bite too, and he does enjoy the occasional chocolatey treat.
My ultimate addiction – bizarrely – is Muller Rice. I get though tubs of the stuff. Goodness knows why, I never touched it until I was heavily pregnant. At which point they were a staple midnight snack. I still do it now – when Sprogzilla wakes up for one of his night feeds, I sneak into the kitchen, open the fridge and wolf one down.
Sprogzilla likes them too. I guess I ate so much, my amniotic fluid must have been practically strawberry flavoured. Maybe that explains why he likes fromage frais as well? They are all yoghurty things after all aren’t they? Anyway, I can’t eat one in sight of him or he’ll make a beeline for me and I have to hand it over. We’ve had to start buying the mini versions just for him!
My biggest problem at the moment is dinner. I just haven’t fancied it lately. Don’t worry, I do eat, but it takes about two hours before we finally sit down at the table because neither of us fancy anything! This is a typical daily discussion about dinner:
Sprogdaddy arrives home from work
Me: What would you like for dinner?
Him: Dunno. What do you want?
Me: Dunno…..
we move onto something else for half an hour
Me: So what are we having for dinner then?
Him: Err… Dunno
Me: Guess it’s ‘default’ dinner then…..
‘default’ dinner being chicken, chips and beans
Of course, we don’t always have ‘default’ dinner. Sometimes the chicken is replaced with fish or some other kind of meat. No, seriously, we do enjoy a bit more variety than that. I’m particularly fond of fresh veggies drenched in gravy with, errr, chicken. Mmmm…. Now I know what we should have eaten today. Oh well, that’s tomorrow sorted then!
